About UQCCR
In partnership with the Queensland Government and major US Philanthropic organisation Atlantic Philanthropies, UQ has developed a new $70 million Centre for Clinical Research (CCR) at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH).
Our goals are to:
- foster innovation in clinical research
- translate basic and applied research into more effective outcomes for patients
-
train tomorrow's generation of translational researchers and MD PhD clinical scientists.
The UQ Centre for Clinical Research brings together leading
medical researchers in state-of-the-art facilities, thereby
providing a focus for world-class clinical research.
UQCCR's focus on patient-orientated research conducted in
response to questions that arise "at the bedside", aims to provide
better treatment and results for patients, as well as adding to the
body of knowledge about particular diseases or problems.
Opened in March 2008, UQCCR's initial focus is on four areas of research, but will adopt a dynamic approach, with other clinical strengths emerging and priorities changing as the Centre develops. The initial focus is on molecular and cellular pathology, clinical neuroscience, tissue inflammation and injury repair, and clinical outcomes and clinical trials. These four major research themes are linked by cross cutting themes in stem cell research and perinatal medicine.
UQCCR is pivotally located alongside the large 1000 bed tertiary Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital (RBWH) and benefits from collocation on the Herston campus with the 14-storey Pathology Queensland (diagnostic pathology) block, the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, and the Royal Children's Hospital.
Internationally recognised medical researcher, Professor Nicholas Fisk, has been appointed to lead the establishment of the Centre.
